Abstract
The goal of our research has been to investigate the different ways in with using new communication technologies, especially mobile multimedia communications, could support the city-based communities. In this paper we review the research done about the effect of mobile technology, specially mobile video, into communities' communication patterns, and highlight the new challenges and gaps still not covered in this area. Finally, we will describe how we have tried to respond to these challenges by using User Centered Design in two very different types of communities: women associations, and elderly people. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2007.
