Abstract
Fibromyalgia is a syndrome involving diffused generalized pain and chronic fatigue without there being an organic lesion or a known pathological etiology. The author describes the psychical functioning of women suffering from fibromyalgia who oscillate between sensori-motor hyperactivity and exhaustion and wonders how this might be related to hysteria and in particular to the mother-daughter relationship in the history of these patients.
