Abstract
This text is based upon observations made in a child psychiatry consultation service. It examines a near ubiquitous problem: the difficulties parents encounter in excercising their authority upon their children. Our reflection is informed by recent revisions to the concept of authority and its pedagogical implications. The paper uses case studies and an analysis of results obtained from specific interventions with parents to further our understanding of this important issue. © Médecine et Hygiène.
