Abstract

The aim of the paper is to specify, according to the classification usedby Barney (1991) and Hall (1992), the tangible and intangible resourcesused by an organization to establish its environmental strategies. Thestudy was carried out in corporation Seara Marfrig, which includes thepoultry and pork division of the Marfrig S.A. Group and is responsiblefor managing brands Seara, Mabella, DaGranja, Pena Branca, and has 30plants located in various states of Brazil. As to the approach, thisresearch work is focused on the qualitative aspect and uses thetechnique of semi-structured interviews and secondary collection of datafrom the company website. As for the procedures, it is classified as acase study. It was found that theres is a predominance of intangibleresources that are mobilized to enable the environmental strategy. Otherfeatures considered essential in this context of analysis and which werementioned by respondents consist of culture, reputation, intellectualcapital, knowledge, innovation, quality, reputation, brand, andfinances. We conclude that the resources with value and rarity arecapable of replication, but throughout a longer period of time and arelinked to the culture and organizational routines specific to thecompany. Therefore, the contribution of this research is - from amonitoring exercise in an organization of the cold storage industry - abetter understanding of the relations between the use of its resourcesand the implementation of environmental strategies in companies.
