Abstract

-Herpes zoster is an acute infectious disease caused by Varicella zoster virus characterized by a painful skin rash with blisters in a limited area on one side of the face or body Primary infection by this virus results in chickenpox in children, and shingles in adults Herpes zoster can be divided into three phases prodromal, acute and chronic The treatment of herpes zoster should be aimed at isolation of the patient, pain control, management of skin and oral lesions, and use of antiviral therapy As oral physicians we should have a thorough knowledge about this disease, its presentation, differential diagnoses, treatment and complications. so a prompt treatment can be provided as early as possible because prevention is always better than cure.
