Abstract

What does the word Denomination actually means? This paper intends to clarify the term of denomination that means two different things: to name classes, sets and categories on the one hand, to name individuals on the other hand. We intend to discuss this way and to show that nominal expressions which are specialized in naming particulars should be analysed in a better way if we adopt a semantic and pragmatic way. The Signalétique can be a model to match apparently as contradictory operations as classifying and uniquely referring to. It can give new perspectives about the rooting of the naming linguistic machinery in cultures and history.
