The 2011 International Congress on Abdominal Obesity gathered more than 500 participants from over 60 countries in Buenos Aires, Argentina in February 2011. The objective of the second meeting of the International Chair on Cardiometabolic Risk was to gather world-renowned experts on various aspects of abdominal obesity and global cardiometabolic risk and raise awareness on the importance of abdominal obesity in the pathophysiology of chronic illnesses such as Type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. The congress covered an impressive list of topics from the biology of fat cells, to metabolic aspects of abdominal obesity to clinical trials and epidemiological studies. © 2011 Future Medicine Ltd.
