Abstract

In the last years, because there is a rapid technological development all over the world; it is recommended to use information and communication technologies in the instructional environments. But the studies showed that there are some problems occurred in successful integration in the learning environments. One of the pointed reasons of these problems was the lack of practical knowledge about how to integrate these technologies into the lessons. The use of digital storytelling in the various educational levels from pre-­‐school to university is useful in the integration of multimedia technologies in classroom environment. Digital storytelling oftenly used in recent years in educational settings was emerged as an approach by integrating multimedia technologies with traditional storytelling. In this study, examining the international literature the concept of digital storytelling is discussed and the investigations are presented about the use in learning environments. Also to create awareness about the issue, some example academic studies in different levels are listed which conducted in Turkey. It is expected that this study would provide a better understanding about the use of digital storytelling in educational environments. It is considered that the study is important due to examine the concept of digital storytelling in details, in which the technology integration is supported in learning and teaching environments.
