Dawning of a new 'ERA'

Abstract

The United States Air Force (USAF) achieves success in the Installation Restoration Program (IRP) in cleaning up post contaminated sites using the stipulations cited in the Comprehensive Environmental Response Compensation Liability Act (CERCLA). The USAF has also extended partnering efforts into the Restoration Advisory Boards (RAB). The success of the RAB efforts is now leading the USAF to consider expanding the context of previous meetings to include environmental compliance issues by creating Compliance Advisory Boards (CABs). The establishment of a CAB is considered to be the first effort by a branch of the Department of Defense (DoD) to begin partnering for non-ERA funded clean up. Limited Environmental Compliance Program (ECP) funds are currently appropriated to support non-ERA site clean up.
