Abstract

Objective: The aim of this study was to examine nursing students' knowledge and the practice skills about intramuscular injection, subcutaneous injection and urinary catheterization, and to evaluate the relationship between their test anxiety and knowledge and practice skills. Materials and Methods: The research was conducted on 200 students who took the test in the theoretical and laboratory lesson of Fundamentals of Nursing at Celal Bayar University Manisa Health School between September 2014 and June 2015. It was a cross-sectional descriptive study. In the collection of data, Student Identification Form and Test Anxiety Inventory were used before the test, and The Practice Steps Form of Professional Skills was used to assessment of the knowledge and practice skills during the test. Results: The students' knowledge score of IM injection (83), skill score of IM injection (87%), knowledge score of SC injection (87.5%), skill score of SC injection (90%), knowledge score of women urinary catheterization (78,5%), skill score of women urinary catheterization (79%), knowledge score of male urinary catheterization and skill score of male urinary catheterization (83%) were found to be at a good level. There were no significant correlation between mean scores of test anxiety and the knowledge and the practice skills of students in laboratory the practice test (p> 0,05). Conclusion: The students' knowledge and the practice skills in laboratory practice are good level. There were no significant relationship between mean scores of the knowledge, practice skills and test anxiety of students in the laboratory test. (English) [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
