Abstract

Southern Africa presents problems in the application of dendrochronological techniques. Under temperate conditions, it is the amount of rainfall that weakens the climate signal, while in summer rainfall areas it is the time at which the rain falls that weakens the clarity of the rings themselves. Five species show promise for further work; despite the problems, it has been possible to obtain large sample collections.-L.F.Musk
