Abstract

The aim of the study was to analyze the relationship between gender, body mass index and self-concept in adolescents from Monterrey, Mexico; and to compare the participants by gender groups and body mass. The sample consisted of 849 adolescents (age = 13.17 ± 0.91; BMI = 22.46, ± 4.67; 53.7% girls and 46.3% boys). As instruments the AF5 Self Concept Scale, a scale and a stadiometer were used. It was found that overweight and obesity are linked to gender and total self-concept as well as the physical self-concept.
