Abstract

This experiment was carried out to know the relationship between the concentration of non-protein nitrogen, phosphates, and sugars in the phosphorus-deficient mulberry leaves and silkworm growth. For this purpose, some of silkworms were reared on the artificial diets containing the normal mulberry leaf powder and the phosphorus-deficient one in different mixing ratio. And also, other silkworms were fed with the artificial diet containing the phosphorus-deficient mulberry leaf powder, as the whole powder source, to which A.T.P, G-I-P, K2HPO4, glucose and sucrose were added excessively. The results obtained showed that there might be a considerably close correlation between the concentration of non-protein nitrogen in the phosphorus-deficient mulberry leaves and the growth of silkworm larvae, and also, that the addition of phosphates and sugars to the artificial diet containing the phosphorus-deficient mulberry leaf powder gave a very good result in the silkworm growth. © 1965, The Japanese Society of Sericultural Science.
