Abstract
This study aims to systematically analyze the development, challenges, and opportunities of integrating Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR 4.0) technologies into Islamic education from 2015 to 2025. A total of 78 articles were reviewed, selected based on PRISMA criteria which include a focus on Islamic education, incorporation of IR 4.0 technologies, and publication within the stated time frame. The review draws upon a range of relevant academic sources to synthesize key findings. The results reveal a growing adoption of technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Virtual Reality (VR), Internet of Things (IoT), and blockchain in Islamic education—particularly in the areas of Qur’anic learning, fiqh, and sirah. Nevertheless, the study identifies four major challenges: infrastructural limitations, pedagogical readiness, cultural and religious sensitivities, and the lack of comprehensive institutional policy frameworks. Despite these challenges, there remains significant potential to leverage IR 4.0 technologies to enhance the quality of learning, enrich student experiences, and expand global access to Islamic education. Accordingly, this study recommends the implementation of an integrated Islamic educational technology policy, teacher training grounded in the Islamic TPACK framework, and infrastructural improvement as strategic initiatives. In conclusion, the integration of IR 4.0 technologies in Islamic education is not merely a contemporary necessity but a strategic imperative to ensure the continued relevance, competitiveness, and alignment of Islamic education with the principles of maqasid shariah in today’s digital age.
