Organisational sustainability from a systematic approach- a five-elements systems thinking (FEST) model

Abstract

Sustainability has been a strategic imperative, shaped by environmental challenges, corporate, and economic pressures. Traditional approacjes often fail to reconcile short-term gains with long-term impact. This paper introduces the Five Elements Systems Thinking (FEST) Model, a novel framework integrates the ancient Chinese Five Elements philosophy and modern systems thinking. FEST offers a balanced, holistic approach to sustainability. The study: (1) conceptualises the FEST Model that unites Five Elements principles with systems thinking, (2) validates it through a multinational case study, and (3) explores future applications, including integration with emerging technologies for diverse industry challenges.
