Abstract
Cloth animation plays an important role in many applications of digital entertainment, 3D games, fashion design and manufacturing. It has been one of the hottest topics in the field of computer graphics for many years. The research of cloth animation is full of technical challenges. Its most key topic is cloth animation method, which aims to build animation model to generate continuous animation. Good animation models are the foundation of dynamically realistic animation results. Recently, as the growth of the requirement for authenticity and real-time in practical applications, many new methods have emerged, which greatly enhance the animation and improve the performance. This paper focuses on cloth animation modeling. First, describes cloth animation from seven perspectives, including geometry-based animation, physically-based animation, hybrid-based animation, adaptive mesh animation, constrained animation, example-based animation and parallel computing based animation, details their principles and advantages, and highlights recent works. Second, raises some challenging issues and analysis their impacts on industry. Finally, we forecast broader application prospect of cloth animation.
