Contaminants synergies and durable hegemonies in the centre of the province of Buenos Aires, Argentine

Abstract

The article describes the socio-environmental characteristics of Olavarría County, located in the Center Region of the province of Buenos Aires. Being one of the world’s richest regions, rapid changes in land use are articulated with the dynamics of technological change accelerated in the agricultural, mining and cement production.This articulation is generating glocal synergies, among which the structuring of conditions for production of disciplined bodies and permeable to pollutants emitted by the manufacturing sectors is a overshadowed dimension by corporate and State policies.The social construction of natural hegemonies and collective health at the regional level is analytically inseparable of the symbolic legitimation of neo-liberal policies at systemic full-scale. The biopolitical which are temporarily deployed for almost a century in the Centre of the province of Buenos Aires are used to think the opacity of other current processes, scale national and framed in the consolidation of neoliberalism in Latin America, such as the reprimarization of the national economy.
