Abstract
Plenodomus morganjonesii was obtained from partially degraded leaves from New Jersey. It is described as a new species based on morphological, cultural and molecular characters that differ from other species to which it is similar. Analysis of the large subunit 28S rDNA sequences suggested that this new species is related to members of the family Leptosphaeriaceae in the Pleosporales. Separation of Plenodomus from Phoma is advocated in order to produce monophyletic genera of coelomycetes.
