Abstract

Introduction: Obesity and metabolic syndrome (MetS) have become a major public health concern due to its increased prevalence and link with cardiovascular disease. These conditions have been associated with increased incidence of cardiac arrhythmias and sudden cardiac death (SCD). Indeed, obese and diabetic patients show electrocardiographic changes such as increased QT interval and QT dispersion, which have been related to SCD, but the underlying mechanisms are not completely known.Purpose: Our goal was to study the ventricular remodeling occurring in a diet-induced experimental model of MetS and its potential arrhythmogenic mechanisms.
