Abstract

Comprehensive geriatric assessment (CGA) is a detailed assessment of an elderly patient, which can be performed in any clinical setting, to assess the elderly patients' medical, psychosocial, environmental and functional status in addition to the usual medical history and physical examinations. CGA has been shown to reduce overall utilisation of healthcare resources, improve functions and quality of life, improve morbidity and mortality, prevent premature institutionalisation, enables timely and appropriate planning and monitoring of treatment, rehabilitation and discharge.
