Abstract

In this occasional series we record the views and personal experience of people who have specially contributed to the evolution of ideas in the Journal's field of interest. Charles Lieber is a Belgian by birth. He has, however, spent most of his working life in the United States where he has made fundamental contributions to the study of alcoholic liver disease and many other types of alcohol-related physical damage.
