Abstract

This investigative work carries out an exploratory study on the Trade Balance and Gross Domestic Product in Ecuador for the period 2000-2017, based on statistical data from the Central Bank of Ecuador. For this purpose, a review of different scientific bibliographic sources was carried out using the Ordinary Least Squares (linear regression) econometric model through the GRETL software, which allowed examining the correlation between the trade balance and the gross domestic product. The research findings show that trade was not significant for the growth of gross domestic product during the time of study in the Ecuadorian economy and the trade balance is highly relevant to the country’s economy. It is concluded that, by stimulating exports and imports, both influence the gross domestic product, according to the demands of the international market.
