Abstract
The inclusion of a chapter on Pierre Robin sequence (or syndrome) in a textbook of operative surgery may be seen by some as outdated, since current management of this condition includes little in the way of surgical procedure. Nevertheless, as a time-honored ‘surgical’ cause of neonatal respiratory distress, the condition is worthy of mention, if only to draw attention to the changes which have taken place in the treatment of these infants.
