La polémica restauración de la Fachada de la catedral de Barcelona en el siglo XIX

Abstract

In 19th Century the finalization of the cathedral of Barcelona was very controversial due to the different projects that were submitted. The Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando validated the proposal of Manuel Girona, who was not an architect but a banker that decided to pay the works. But the public opinion preferred the more imaginative drawing of Joan Martorell. The critics to the work were present during its execution and provoked changes that make it closer to the project of Martorell, with the consequent polemic that can be observed in the newspapers at that time. The article also presents other restorations of Augusto Font, the architect of the project.
