Abstract

We review the qualitative features of string theory compactifications with low energy effective theory close to (supersymmetric versions of) the Standard Model of Particle Physics. We cover Calabi-Yau compactifications of heterotic strings, intersecting brane models, and the recent setup of F-theory models. © 2010 IOP Publishing Ltd.
