Abstract

The primary purpose of this study is to identify the variables that allow implementing a university social responsibility model to improve the understanding of the new challenges generated by COVID-19. The methodology is quantitative and assesses two private higher education institutions from the city of Ibagué (Colombia). Data are gathered from 687 students and 180 professors by means of a structured questionnaire. Responses are analyzed using the chi-square test of independence between random variables. The results show that, based on the relationship between the variables analyzed, it is plausible to propose an internal social responsibility model that focuses on factors that affect social responsibility initiatives. In conclusion, implementing a social responsibility model strengthens the academic, social, economic, technological, environmental, and cultural actions adopted during the COVID-19 crisis.
