Abstract

In the light of revelation regarding the Trinity, the Swiss theologian Hans Urs von Balthasar posits the question of being. His ontology underlines the positivity of being: the characteristics of being, characterisitcs that metaphysical tradition identified with the deficiency of finite being in comparison to the being of God, Balthasar, in constrast to this tradition, interprets them as indicators that show the similarity of being with the Trinity: difference, alterity, receptivity, passivity. The author of the present article concludes that, without ontology, the rational justification of the possibility of a definitive revelation of God remains difficult. In this way, recurring to the apagogic proof, the ontological dimension of this thought is shown. © 2009 Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.
