Abstract

The research focused on analyzing seafloor sediments in the Rukindo Port channel, Jakarta's waters, to facilitate dredging activities. Multibeam echosounder technology was employed to map seafloor depths and backscatter data, which helped identify sediment types and morphology. The study used Angular Range Analysis and Sediment Analysis Tools (ARA&SAT) to examine backscatter values related to sediment grain size. Validation involved collecting sediment samples at 12 points in the study area and classifying them in the laboratory based on the Wentworth scale. This unique research aimed to classify fine sediments using backscatter values in the Jakarta Sea, providing valuable insights for dredging planning. Results indicated predominantly fine sand sediments with backscatter values ranging from -15 dB to -30 dB. Utilizing these backscatter values can contribute to safer and more effective dredging operations by considering the underwater substrate type. This study marks a significant step in sediment classification based on backscatter values in the region.
