Abstract
Specific difficulties involved in the translation of classical Chinese poetry into English are discussed. General criteria for quality of translation are outlined, & some sample translations are examined in order to illustrate ways in which particular Chinese poetic devices are rendered in English. It is argued that although significant differences in the nature of the two languages make translation difficult, it is not impossible. 5 References. B. Annesser Murray
