Abstract
For more than a decade, designer William McDonough has championed sustainable design, from products to interior architecture. His book, "Cradle to Cradle," co-written with Michael Braungart, proposes designing products so that at the end of their useful lives, they can either easily reenter nature without depositing toxins, or can be recycled into new materials. McDonough has been actively involved with the carpet industry for more than a decade, trying to get the cradle-to-cradle concept integrated into the development and manufacturing processes.
