Abstract

Shoplifting has been attributed to many psychological and physiolog- ical factors, especially when women are involved. This article examines the many factors that account for shoplifting behavior focusing on research findings which suggest economic and employment precipitants of the problem. Changes in policy and programmatic responses to sho- plifters are suggested.
