La sociedad y sus males: el “problema de las drogas” bajo la óptica comparada de Scientology y el pentecostalismo

Abstract

Resumen El tópico de las adicciones representa un campo de intervención persistente y complejo en el mercado de las curas espirituales y las técnicas del buen vivir. El objetivo del artículo consiste en explorar y comparar las visiones del mundo que explicita el abordaje de consumos problemáticos en dos programas religiosos de rehabilitación: uno evangélico-pentecostal y otro perteneciente a la iglesia de Scientology en la Ciudad de Buenos Aires, Argentina. Cada uno de ellos será abordado analíticamente de acuerdo a tres dimensiones:(a) el diagnóstico que construyen sobre la causa y función de las drogas en la sociedad; (b) la etiología de la adicción y del adicto (c) finalmente, la terapéutica empleada o sugerida. El trabajo se basa en una estrategia de abordaje cualitativo que incluye observación participante, entrevistas en profundidad en Centros de Rehabilitación y análisis de un corpus de documentos escritos y audiovisuales. Entre los principales resultados podemos destacar la importancia de las adicciones en la construcción de la eficacia y veracidad del discurso religioso.Abstract The topic of addictions represents a persistent and complex field of intervention in the market of spiritual healing and good living techniques. The aim of the article is to explore and compare the worldviews that emerge from the approach to problematic consumption in two religious rehabilitation programs: one evangelical-Pentecostal and another belonging to the Church of Scientology in the City of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Each of them will be tackled analytically from three dimensions: (a) the diagnosis they construct about the cause and function of drugs in society; (b) the etiology of the addiction and the addict (c) finally, the therapy used or suggested. The research is based on a qualitative approach strategy that includes participant observation, in-depth interviews in Rehabilitation Centers and analysis of a corpus of written and audiovisual documents. Among the main results, we can highlight the importance of addictions in the construction of the effectiveness and veracity of religious discourse.
