INACCESSIBLE RIGHT: PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES AND ELECTIONS IN BRAZIL

Abstract

The present study carries out a theoretical review and an empirical analysis which aims to investigate how the participation of people with disabilities in the Brazilian electoral process is manifested, from the exercise of voting to the registration of candidacies and occupation of elective posts. Part of the assumption that the achievement of this right is fundamental in the production of national public agendas that take into account the assumptions of inclusion as a non-negotiable principle. The collection and analysis of data was based on the numbers consolidated by the Superior Electoral Court, relating them to research carried out in other countries. Finally, it highlights the imperative nature of the creation of mechanisms that leverage the number of candidates with disabilities people as a catalyst for a fair and inclusive society.
