Abstract

The hardness, elastic modulus, and friction coefficient of the Cu 77.96Al 22.04 alloy before and after treatment at 750°C and 5 GPa for 15 min were measured by nanoindenter. Effects of high pressure heat treatment on its micromechanical properties were discussed. The results show that high pressure heat treatment can refine the microstructures of the Cu 77.96Al 22.04 alloy, increase its hardness and elastic recovery rate, and decrease its friction coefficient. It also shows that high pressure treatment has little effect on the elastic modulus. As a result, the deformation resistance and the anti-indentation creep of the alloy are improved effectively. © 2012 The Japan Institute of Metals.
