Abstract

Juicio de residencia to corregidor Joachen Balcárcel y Vargas, verified in 1777, is herein reproduced, with margin notes. The legal-historical context is studied by means of news regarding his appointment, the territorial areas in which he exerted jurisdiction and different situations regarding the inhabitants' license and the quality of the land. Different phases of the corpus are analyzed, such as the manner and procedure of the residence, the ex officio investigation, the questionnaire, the depositions of the witnesses, the considerations after the secret and the decision of the judge in charge of this proceeding, the second instance and the final ruling of the prosecutor of the Real Audiencia.
