Abstract

Mössbauer spectroscopy was conducted on partially ordered Fe16N2 thin films. Besides the dominant polarized core-s electron Fermi contact term, valence electron contribution was counted as a necessity for the explanation of a combination of a high magnetic moment and a relatively low magnetic hyperfine splitting, which were obtained on Fe16N2 thin films with both GaAs and MgO substrates. Essentially, the "cluster + atom" model was applied to understand the high degree hybridization of s-p-d electron, which allows the increase of the positive valence electron contribution and the decrease of the total hyperfine field.
