Abstract

In order to promote increasingly efficient architectural design processes using BIM, there is a need to communicate the Level of Development (LOD), an indicator of the progress concerning BIM, among building owners, designers, contractors, manufacturers, and operations managers. However, there are currently no standard LOD specifications within Japan. Hence, this study examined how to ensure standardization of LOD specifications in Japan by clarifying companies' actual LOD planning conditions from interviews with Architectural offices and general contractors in Japan, relativizing the situation in Japan through a comparison with the BIMForum LOD Specification, an LOD global standard.
