Abstract

The work presents the latest developments in the current discussion in the philosophy of science. in the first part of this volume, j w n watkins outlines basic problems in the philosophy of science from a popperian point of view. this is followed with papers by worrall, zahar and urbach attacking these problems from the viewpoint of the methodology of scientific research programs. in the second part, the position papers are critically commented on by well known methodologists who represent different points of view. in the third part, watkins and worrall reply to criticisms raised by the commentators in the second part.
