Variations in body weight and tarsal dimensions of english and irish pheasants with notes on ring sizes

Abstract

Weights and tarsal measurements of Pheasants from England and Ireland were compared and demonstrated that Irish birds were both smaller and lighter than their English counterparts. The ranges of tarsal diameters obtained suggest that female Pheasants should be ringed with “F” rings while males require a “G” ring. Both rings should be slightly elliptical. Males should be ringed above the spur and young males on whom the ring may slip over the developing spur should not be ringed. © 1985 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
