Abstract

The place of medicine in society and the relationship between sickness and health have undergone profound changes over recent decades. The right to be sick and to be treated has been replaced by the duty to be in good health and it is no longer a question of fighting sickness, but rather of remaining healthy. With the emergence of risk medicine, we are seeing a shift from risk avoidance to risk anticipation in order to achieve the ever-better, thus losing our bearings between health and sickness. These changes have impacted medicine itself and it treats and monitors people whose position, somewhere between health and sickness, is increasingly blurred.
