Abstract
The cover letter to be sent with a resume to a prospective employer should be grammatically and typographically perfect. The principles to follow when composing the cover letter are the same as for any technical communication: Use simple, precise language; be concise; use the active voice. Tips on how to handle the mechanical aspects of the cover letter - selecting paper, using proper margins, and writing short paragraphs - are also presented.
