Abstract
The use of Social Networking Services lor private purposes has been increasing considerably in the past few years, in the same time companies started to experiment with such services to support formal and informal cwmmunteition and networking among their employees. This article gives an overview of services and application for IT-supported Social Networking in companies. First, the authors place Social Networking Services in the context of Web 2.0 and Social Software. Thereupon, they discuss me benefits and the motivation of the deployment of Social Networking Software in companies, and introduce some specific IT solutions. Finally, they also address necessary future developments in the field of Social Networking Services.
