Abstract

Biol. active sulfur compds. bearing heterocyclic nitrogen groups such as 3-imino-2-thioxo-4,5-dihydro-4-thiazolidinone, 3-imino-2-thioxo-3,4,5,6-tetrahydro-1,3-thiazine-4,6(2H)dione, pyrazoledione derivs., 2-thioxo-4,6-pyrimidinedione and bis(3,5-diamino-1-pyrazolinyl)thione were designed and the synthesis of the target compds. was achieved from dithioic formic acid hydrazide and carbonothioic dihydrazide by various methods. The title compds. were evaluated against Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas vulgaris and Shigella flexneri and it was discovered that these compds. displayed antimicrobial activity. One compd. [i.e., 3-[(1,2-dihydro-2-oxo-3H-indol-3-ylidene)amino]-2-thioxo-1,3-thiazine-4,6-dione] was discovered to display activity as an active chelating agent in the spectrophotometric detn. of mercury(II) ions in drinking water samples. The limit of detection (LOD) and quantification (LOQ) of the developed spectrophotometric method were found to be equal to 0.16 and 0.52 μg mL-1 mercury(II), resp. This compd. was also phys. immobilized onto a polyurethane foam (PUF) and was successfully used as solid sorbent in a packed column for removal of mercury(II) ions from wastewater. [on SciFinder(R)]
