Abstract

A new geranylated xanthone (1) was isolated from the root bark extract of Garcinia smeathmannii Oliver along with known guttiferone I, isoxanthochymol, smeathxanthones A and B, and triacontanyl caffeate. The structures of these compounds were elucidated by spectral analysis and by comparison with the reported data. These compounds showed significant antioxidant DPPH radical scavenging activities. © 2006 Chemical Society of Ethiopia.
