The origins of violence

Abstract

The author outlines the various hypotheses put forward to explain the origins of violence in our present day society and examines in more detail the contribution the psychologist has to make in explaining the problems associated with violence. He concludes that both biological and social factors are responsible and that the development of 'conscience' in humans, when children, through conditioning is necessary to help control violent responses.
