Abstract

The cytotoxic activity of extracts of Asclepias albicans (Asclepiadaceae) was traced to uzarigenin (2), desglucouzarin (3) and a new cardenolide glycoside, uzarigenin 3-O-β-d-glucopyranosyl (l→4)-β-d-glucopyranoside (4). The latter compound also displayed significant antitumor activity against P-388 lymphocytic leukemia. © 1980, The Pharmaceutical Society of Japan. All rights reserved.
