Experience of Nurses in Providing Nursing Care for Covid-19 Patients in DKI Jakarta

Abstract

COVID-19 is a communicable disease that need a special treatment in giving nursing care. Objective: explore the experience of Nursing in Providing Nursing Care for COVID-19 Patients. Method: qualitative phenomenology with purposive sampling, the number of samples in this study was 10 participants. Results: The assessment experience found that the participants experienced feelings of anxiety, fear, anxiety and questioning, carried out the assessment by keeping a distance and using complete PPE, conducted a focused assessment and detailed history. Experience in making the diagnosis by focusing on assessment data and according to priority, it was found that there were priority diagnoses in COVID-19 are airway clearance, hyperthermia and anxiety. Experience with intervention, there is a different intervention from non-covid-19, namely a psychological approach. In implementing experience, it was found that the patient was less cooperative. In the experience of evaluating: it was found that the participant's experience of conducting an evaluation was by direct evaluation and referring to the care that had been given, there were indicators in the evaluation, which is swab examination, the target given was achieved, and hemodynamically stable. Barriers to assessment are barriers to physical examination and ineffective communication, barriers to diagnosis are invalid data and lack of data, barriers to participant intervention is barriers to collaborating with families, barriers to implementation are the use of PPE, equipment or lack of facilities. Barriers to evaluation are the nursing process is not optimal, the patient's swab is still positive. Adaptation of participants in assessments, are coordination and critical thinking. Adaptation of participants during the intervention are discussions with teams and collaboration with families. Adaptation of participants overcoming implementation obstacles are mutual support and coordination. Adaptation of participants in conducting evaluations are re-evaluating and collaborating with the team. Conclusion: This study provides an overview of experiences, obstacles experienced, the way of participants adapt in providing nursing care for COVID-19 patients. Suggestion: researchers suggest further research with the development of quantitative or mixed method research, related to COVID-19 nursing care with a larger number of participants.
