Abstract
This paper proposes a novel FRR mechanism based on the selective Repair Computational Element (RCE) algorithm, which proactively calculates and distributes alternative FRR routing paths from a dedicated computation node. By offloading backup path computation from routers, the proposed mechanism reduces processing overhead, shortens recovery times, and improves availability primarily in IP and SDN environments. Simulation results demonstrate significant improvements in recovery time and packet loss compared to standard approaches, confirming the benefits of this centralized yet selective computation strategy. Further development of the RCE concept could enhance its scalability and functional properties, contributing to a more robust and resilient computer network infrastructure.
