Pensar a natureza e o ambiente: alguns contributos a partir da Teoria das Representações Sociais

Abstract

Este artigo apresenta dois estudos conduzidos em Portugal, sob a orientação da Teoria das Representações Sociais (TRS), que analisaram como os portugueses pensam e falam sobre o ambiente e a natureza. É primeiro apresentada uma perspectiva geral do campo de estudos das crenças e atitudes em relação ao ambiente e à natureza e são esboçadas as ideias da TRS que podem contribuir para suprir algumas das suas lacunas. Depois é sumarizado um primeiro estudo por questionário que procurou identificar as representações do ambiente em Portugal. Para responder a questões levantadas pelos resultados deste primeiro estudo foi feito um segundo, com grupos de discussão, e apresentam-se as principais características dos quatro discursos que foram identificados com este. Nas conclusões discute-se qual o valor acrescentado da TRS para este campo, em termos de maior integração teórica e do aprofundamento do diálogo entre os vários quadros teóricos que mais estruturam o campo.This paper presents two studies, conducted in Portugal within the framework of Social Representations Theory (SRT), and aiming at analyzing how the Portuguese think and talk about environment and nature. A general overview of the field of environmental beliefs and attitudes is first presented, and some of SRT ideas that may help advance this field of studies are advanced. A questionnaire study that aimed at identifying the social representations of the environment present in Portugal is then summarized, and, departing from some of the question it points to, a second study is afterwards presented. It resulted from a series of focus groups, in which four discourses were identified whose main features are summarized. Finally, the value that SRT may add to this field of studies is discussed, in terms of a more consistent theoretical integration.
