Abstract
The literature on the effects of metallic mercury introduced either deliberately or accidentally into the human body is reviewed, and a case of suicide by the self-injection of metallic mercury is described in detail. It is suggested that the long-held belief that metallic mercury is non-toxic when introduced into the human body is untrue. © 1967, British Medical Journal Publishing Group. All rights reserved.
